Q: What type of guitar is needed?
A: All students in the program are required to play a classical guitar (nylon string acoustic), with smaller sizes for younger students. All concerts are acoustic, and we expect to get similar sounds from all the instruments. For younger students it is more efficient to start with a nylon string guitar, the tension is lower, therefore it is easier and less painful to press on the strings with the left hand.

Q: What repertoire do the students play?
A: The repertoire encompasses various styles from around the world, with arrangements by Cem Duruoz. The students are exposed to various world cultures, latin, American Pop, classical and more. The music is sometimes arranged for two even three guitars.

Q: Are there any concert opportunities?
A: The goal of the program is to prepare the students to perform in concerts and be able to play in an ensemble with good counting and reading skills. With the various institutional connections, Cem Duruöz regularly schedules concerts in venues such as the New England Guitar Society, Wesleyan University, vairous retirement homes and more.

Q: Any further details?
A: Please contact Cem Duruoz, (203) 550-4760
